Basketball Associate Head Coach
Michael Berry
Berry enters his
second season with the Rams after having helped lead the team to a
NAIA National Tournament appearence in his first year with the team. Before
arriving at Mobile, Berry spent one season as the head women's basketball
coach at Harvest Christian Academy in Pasadena, Texas.
Prior to being the head coach at Harvest Christian
Academy, Berry was the assistant women’s basketball coach at
Sam Houston State University, a NCAA Division I school in Huntsville,
Texas. Berry was responsible for the coordination of high school and
junior college recruiting, assisting in pre-season and post-season
workouts, development of post players and instruction in a weight lifting
class.
Before his time at Sam Houston State, Berry helped
to develop a new women’s basketball program at Lon Morris College
in Jacksonville, Texas. Berry was again in charge of recruiting, coordination
of high school and international student athletes, scouting and scheduling
opponents, coordination of basketball camps, development of perimeter
players, maintenance of student records and keeping track of eligibility
of all participating athletes.
Berry is a 1991 Bachelors of Arts graduate in
Mass Communications from Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma where he was a starter on the1991 NAIA National Championship
team. Berry would go on to receive his Masters of Liberal Arts in Management/Leadership
also from Oklahoma City University in 1996.
While working on his Masters of Arts, Berry worked
as a Veteran Affairs/Special Programs Coordinator with Oklahoma City
University from 1992-97. As Programs Coordinator, Berry coordinated
an Asian off-campus International MBA program, coordinated prior learning
for undergraduate studies programs, (PLUS) and certified the Veterans
of the Armed Forces for educational benefits.
After his five years as the Programs Coordinator,
Berry took his first head coaching job with Bucks County Community
College in Newtown, Pa. as the head women’s basketball coach
and assistant men’s coach for the 1997-98 season before returning
to Oklahoma City University to serve for two seasons as the assistant
women’s basketball coach and as a tax compliance officer.
While at Oklahoma City University, Berry helped
lead his team to back-to-back NAIA National Championships in 1999 and
2000.
Berry is a native of North Carolina and is married
to his wife Geeta. Berry has two children, Mycah who is 14 and Rekha,
who is 8 years old.
