UM Men Finish 13th at National Championships

PLYMOUTH, Ind—The final round of the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships is in the books and the University of Mobile men finished in 13th place.

Oklahoma City won the championship with a 4-round total of 1154, while the Rams carded a 309 in the final round to finish at 1213.

Tommy Bell and Chris Kennedy were the highest finishers for the Rams, tying for 41st among individual scores after shooting 303 for the 4-round event. Braxton Gillespie finished 1 stroke back at 304, while Jacy Todd shot a 309 and Glenn Williams finished at 314 for the tournament.

UM Men Fall to 12th at Nationals

YMOUTH, Ind—The third round of the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships is in the books and the University of Mobile Rams find themselves in a tie for 12th.

The Rams are tied with California Baptist after shooting a 22-over par 310 on the day to move to 904 for the tournament. Oklahoma City was under par through the first 2 days and they remain in 1st after shooting 16-over in round 3 to move to 875 for the tournament.

Braxton Gillespie shot an 80 in round 3 to move to 226, Chris Kennedy carded a 76 to move to 227, Jacy Todd shot a 78 to move to 228, and Tommy Bell shot a 79 on round 3 to move to 229 for the tournament.

The tournament will wrap up Friday.

 

UM Men Make Move to 7th After Round 2

PLYMOUTH, Ind—The second round of the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships is in the books and the University of Mobile men jumped 7 spots into a tie for 7th after shaving 10 strokes off their 1st round score.

The Rams followed an opening round 302, by carding a 292 on the second day of the 4 round event to move into a tie with Oklahoma Christian. Oklahoma City maintains a firm hold on the top spot after shooting a 290 on the second day to move to 5-under par for the tournament.

Braxton Gillespie followed up a opening round 72 with another solid round of 74 to place 17th among individuals. Tommy Bell fired an impressive 1-under par 71 to move to 150 thus far. Jacy Todd is also at 150 through two rounds after carding a 74. Chris Kennedy shot a 73 for the 2nd round to move to 151, while Glenn Williams moved to 155.

 

UM Men in 14th After Round 1 At Nationals

PLYMOUTH, Ind.—The University of Mobile men’s golf team finds itself in 14th place after the first round of play at the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships.

The Rams are tied for 14th place with St. Ambrose (Iowa) after shooting an opening round score of 302, 14-over-par. That places them 21 strokes behind the leader as Oklahoma City dominated the first round by carding a 7-under par 281. Oklahoma Christian is the only other school under par after the opening round with a 287, to finish 1-under.

Braxton Gillespie shot an even 72 for the Rams, while Glenn Williams and Jacy Todd were both 4-over par after shooting 76. Chris Kennedy carded a 78 and Tommy Bell rounded out the group with a 79 on day 1. The tournament has 3 more rounds of action to finish.

UM Men's Golf Heading To Nationals

PLYMOUTH, Ind -- The University of Mobile men's golf team learned Friday that they earned an at-large bid to compete in the 2007 NAIA National Championship.

The bid marks the 22nd time that the University of Mobile men's golf team has competed at the National Tournament, which means the team has been to the prestigious field every year of its existence, including winning the National Championship in the 1996-97 season.

The tournament will be played May 22-25 at Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind. The 144-player field will contend for the individual national championship, while 28 teams will compete for the team title, and defending champion Oklahoma City will defend its title after taking over the top position in the NAIA Men's Golf Top 25 with a win in the Region VI tournament.
