Mobile Displays Athletics Prowess
After impressive Fall performances, the University of Mobile continues to display all-around excellence as 5-of-6 spring teams find themselves ranked in the NAIA Top-25 and all are in good position to make noise in postseason play.
Softball and Baseball Slug Way Into Top-10…
The University of Mobile softball team leads the pack with a #5 ranking after compiling a 31-7 record in the regular season. Cristina Rodriguez was just named the NAIA National Player of the Week and the Lady Rams will compete at the GCAC Tournament in Clinton, MS April 25-26. The Lady Rams have been to the National Tournament 14 of the last 15 seasons and won it all in 2006.
The Rams’ baseball team has been revitalized and has surged to an impressive 29-3 GCAC record and has sustained a #6 ranking in the NAIA for five-consecutive weeks. The Rams have wrapped up the Regular Season GCAC Championship (first since 2001) and close out the regular season at LSU-Shreveport this weekend before participating in the GCAC Tournament at Spring Hill Ap ril 30- May 4.
Tennis Teams Secure Bid To Nationals…
On the tennis courts, the Lady Rams upset 14th-ranked Xavier University to win the GCAC Championship and thus vaulted into the NAIA Top-15 at #18. The UM men (9-5) aren’t in the Top-25, but ranked 6th in Region XIII and have secured the host-bid to the NAIA National Tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center, as have the Lady Rams.
Golf Teams On Verge Of Keeping Streaks Alive….
While it has basically become ho-hum, the UM men’s and women’s golf teams are also in the Top-25 and on the brink of yet another National Championships bid. The Rams have appeared in the NAIA National Championships every year of competition (22 years) and are ranked 21st in the latest NAIA Top-25. The Rams finished 5th at the Region XIII Tournament and will await word on a potential at-large bid to nationals. The UM women are ranked 13th and compete in the Regional Tournament April27-29. They have been to nationals all 14 years of the program’s existence.
