Lady Rams At 2008 GCI
Game 1:
Lady Rams Blast Ohio Dominican
In the 13th-ranked University of Mobile Lady Rams' opening game at the Gulf Coast Invite, the Lady Rams used a balanced offensive attack and dominant pitching to take down Ohio Dominican 8-0.
Lefty Ginger Reeser got the start for Mobile and put up zeroes while fanning 5 batters. Reeser moves to 5-1 on the season and picks up her 3rd complete game and 2nd shutout of 2008.
Offensively, everyone contributed to the extent that Head Coach Terri McCormick couldn't single out one or two batters.
"Everyone in the lineup contributed to the opening win," Coach McCormick said. "We hit up and down the lineup and set the tempo early."
Game 2:
Lady Rams Hold Off Southern Nazarene
In Mobile's final game of day 1, the Lady Rams held on to beat Southern Nazarene 4-1. Nikki Madden got the start and cruised.
Madden (4-0) made only 1 mistake on a solo homer, but went on to fan 6 in the contest and hand the opposing hitters only 1 walk. The senior has allowed only 2 earned runs in 5 appearances on the season.
In the batter's box, 3rd-baseman Anadys Suarez led the Lady Ram's potent attack with a 4-4 day. After the day's action, Mobile has outscored its 2008 opponents 86-22.
Game 3:
Lady Rams Pound SCAD 10-0 On Day 2
The UM softball team picked up where it left off by beating SCAD 10-0 on day two of the Gulf Coast Invitational.
Freshman Karla Rodriguez continues to impress, as she went the distance, pitching a 3-hitter and fanning 5 while collecting the shutout.
Offensively, Mobile touched up the Bees' pitching staff for 11 hits to plate the 10 runs. Mobile broke open a 2-0 game through 4, by scoring 5 in the 5th and 3 in the 7th inning.
Kelyn Mendoza went 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer and 2 RBI and Jineth Pimentel finished 2-for-4 with a double.
Game 4:
Lady Rams Beat USAO 9-2
The UM softball team took down University of Science & Arts at Oklahoma 9-2 Saturday evening on day 2 of the GCI.
Ginger Reeser threw a complete-game 2-hitter, walked 1 and fanned 3. Reeser made only 1 mistake, allowing a 2-run homer.
At the plate, Mobile had many contributors as the team collected 10 hits. Jennifer Gomez went 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer, Kelyn Mendoza went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer, Yaicey Sojo finished 2-for-4, and Anadys Suarez and Jineth Pimentel each reached base twice.
