Rams Bounce Crusaders From Tourney
MOBILE, Ala—The 8th-ranked University of Mobile baseball team capitalized on mistakes to erase William Carey University from the 2008 GCAC Tournament with a 12-1 victory.
Mobile pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of 5 William Carey errors to cruise to the victory and advance to play LSU-Shreveport Friday night at 7:00.
Kit Powell picked up the win for Mobile, going 7 innings, limiting the Crusaders to 4 hits and 1 run, and striking out 5 batters. Matt Carter took the loss for William Carey after surrendering 7 runs over 3.2 innings of work.
The two teams traded runs in the first inning before the Rams took control of the ball game with 3 runs apiece over the 3rd and 4th innings. Mobile loaded the bases in the 3rd and Daniel Harper followed a Daine Solomon RBI-ground out with a 2-run single to take a 4-1 lead.
In the 4th, Mobile took command of the game when 2-out errors by Brandon Chretien and Louis Rolon pushed home three Mobile runs for a 7-1 Rams’ advantage. Stephen Stork added a solo homer and RBI single late as Mobile continued scoring en route to the 12-1 finale.
The Rams featured a balanced lineup in the attack, with six hitters producing multi-hit afternoons. Nelson Curry went 2-for-6, Stork finished 3-for-6 with the homer, Jared Baria went 2-for-7 to move into a tie at the top of the career hits leader board at Mobile, Kevin Orso went 2-for-2 and reached base all 6 times, and Carlos Romero and David Cramblitt rounded out the multi-hit performers for the Rams.
Greg Alexander led the Crusaders at the plate with a 2-for-3 ball game, while Pat Barnes finished 1-for-3. |
