Rams Start 2008 With Big Win
MOBILE, Ala-- The 9th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team started the 2008 season with a 5-1 victory over visiting Texas College by using four second-half goals to blow open a 1-0 half time lead.
The Rams opened the scoring just 4 minutes into the opening frame when Geert Slits headed home a free kick off the foot of Matt Watts. Things stayed scoreless the rest of the half, in a physical battle that saw 25 combined fouls.
Mobile then pulled away, notching four second-half goals in the first 13 minutes of action. Jack St. Hilaire scored first off of assists from David Maddren and Slits, Slits added an unassisted goal, Watts knocked home a penalty kick, and Ruben Diaz finished the Mobile scoring by knocking home a rebound from Hilaire.
The Rams out-shot the Steers 18-10 in the game. Mobile (1-0) next plays at Rio Grande (OH) August 29th at 7:00 pm. |
