Biloxi, MS - Despite six
new starters in the first eleven the University of Mobile men’s
soccer team pulled out a 2-0 season opening win over Cardinal
Stritch University at William Carey’s tournament in Biloxi, MS.
In the 75th minute of play,
James Gledhill, situated ten yards off the left side of the
eighteen, received a throw-in to his feet. With his back to the
defender he played the ball to the end line, turned, and crossed
the ball to the front of the net where defender Jamie
Ferguson connected for Mobile’s first goal.
Mobile struck again in the 83rd minute on an indirect kick.
Just a few yards outside the front side of the eighteen, Stephen
Shirley touched the ball to Teba McKnight, who punched it through
to the top shelf.
Making his keeper debut, Tommi Sarkkinen
recorded his first shutout, recording three saves on the night.
The Rams leave on Wednesday to play in
the Wheaton College tournament. Their first opponent is a tough
Westmont College team who the Rams will play on Friday at 4:30.
