Biloxi, MS - Despite six new starters in the first eleven the University of Mobile men’s soccer team pulled out a 2-0 season opening win over Cardinal Stritch University at William Carey’s tournament in Biloxi, MS.

In the 75th minute of play, James Gledhill, situated ten yards off the left side of the eighteen, received a throw-in to his feet. With his back to the defender he played the ball to the end line, turned, and crossed the ball to the front of the net where defender Jamie Ferguson connected for Mobile’s first goal.

Mobile struck again in the 83rd minute on an indirect kick. Just a few yards outside the front side of the eighteen, Stephen Shirley touched the ball to Teba McKnight, who punched it through to the top shelf.

Making his keeper debut, Tommi Sarkkinen recorded his first shutout, recording three saves on the night.

The Rams leave on Wednesday to play in the Wheaton College tournament. Their first opponent is a tough Westmont College team who the Rams will play on Friday at 4:30.
