University of Mobile to face UAB in exhibition soccer match tonight; schedule released

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile men’s soccer team, that advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the third year in a row last season, will open their 2005 campaign tonight in an exhibition match against the University of Alabama-Birmingham at 7 p.m. in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Rams, which open the season ranked no. 10 in the NAIA National Top 25 pre-season poll, will then host no. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson College at home on Wednesday, August 31 in their regular season opener.

Mobile will face five pre-season top 25 teams and two more teams in the top 30 in their 14-game schedule including no. 5 University of Rio Grande on Saturday, Sept. 3 in the University of Rio Grande Tournament. In that same tournament, the Rams will also face off against pre-season no. 14-ranked Bethel College on Friday, Sept. 2.

One week after the Rio Grande Tournament, the Rams will host the 2005 O’Charley’s Futbol Festival. Mobile will face no. 26-ranked Oklahoma Baptist College on Friday, Sept. 9 and Holy Names University on Saturday, Sept. 10.

After a two-week bye, Mobile will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 24 to host pre-season no. 4-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery before traveling to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a mid-week showdown against pre-season no. 30 William Carey College on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

After back-to-back home games against Notre Dame College and Cumberland College, the Rams travel west to California where they will face pre-season no. 8 Azusa Pacific, Biola University and Westmont College.

The Rams will close their home schedule out with a game against Cedarville University on Saturday, Oct. 22 and will close out the regular season against NCAA Division II University of West Florida on Friday, Oct. 28 in Pensacola, Florida.
