MOBILE PULLS THE UPSET AT AUM CLASSIC Montgomery, Ala.—Playing two overtime matches in less than 17 hours proved to much for Bethel College (Ind.) as they lost a heartbreaker 3-2, to the University of Mobile in the opening match of today’s AUM Classic. Bethel played AUM to a one-all tie in yesterday’s late match and then turned around to face Mobile in the noon match today. Mobile kept the pressure on the whole match, out shooting Bethel 27-12, but it was Bethel who broke on top first when Kela Sanborn took a pass down the middle of the field from Raymundo Gonzales for the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. That lead lasted exactly one minute as Lance Nelson received a double pass from Edgar Morales and Dean Logan and was able to sneak a header in past goalkeeper Scott Terry to even the match at one. In the 25th minute Sanborn again worked his magic weaving by several defenders to get a clear shot from in front of the goal to give Bethel a 2-1 lead. That lead lasted until the 35th minute when Gustavo Souza came off the bench for Mobile and received a pass from Daniel Waters and evened the match at two heading into halftime. With about three minutes left before halftime, Bethel went down a player due to a red card. They played the rest of the match one man down. Neither team could muster a score in the second half and in the first overtime period. But barely one minute into the second overtime, Nelson came through with his second goal of the match which proved to be the game winner. He was able to get to a loose ball right in front of the goal and with Terry out of position, was able to knock the game winner into the back of the net. Mobile moves to 1-1 and 13th ranked Bethel falls to 1-1-1. The Rams fell to #4 Rio Grande 5-1 Friday after allowing 3 goals in the first 7 minutes.
