Rams tie Covenant College 1-1
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant College's Austin Branson almost single-handedly
kept his Scots from losing to the 14th-ranked University of Mobile Rams.
Almost, because 14 saves on the day resulting in a 1-1 draw, required
his other hand as well.
Clearly dominating in their season opener, the UM Rams hit the post,
nearly executed on several set pieces, and poured in 15 shots on goal
overall, but yet walked away with only one goal to speak of. And that
goal only served to save Mobile from coming away with a loss.
A mishap in the Rams backfield allowed Covenant's Allen Dubie to score
on a breakaway goal in the 23rd minute of play.
In the 47th minute Mobile fired back.
An Edgar Morales free kick from 30 yards out was flicked off the back
of center back Sam Bailey's head and put away on a header by Jordan Wilson.
While Mobile out-shot Covenant 15-4 and dominated the play on the pitch,
they simply could not dent the net through two overtime periods.
Now 0-0-1 on the season, the Rams will prepare for a game at Bryan College
in Dayton, Tenn. on Monday before returning home for next week's O'Charley's
Futbol Festival.
