AUM slips past Holy Names 3-2; Mobile and Oklahoma Baptist fight to 1-1 draw

MOBILE, Ala. -- Auburn University-Montgomery (3-1) slipped by Holy Names University (0-2), 3-2 in the opening game of the 2005 O'Charley's Futbol Festival and the University of Mobile (0-0-1) fought to a 1-1 tie against Oklahoma Baptist University (5-0-1) in the night cap.

Holy Names jumped out a 2-0 halftime lead in the opener before seeing the Senators storm back in the second half and score three goals to take the victory.

In the late game, Oklahoma Baptist scored first to take a 1-0 lead just 24 minutes into the contest.  Pablo Campos picked up a loose ball that squirted through the Mobile defense and raced all alone to the goal slipping a shot past UM starting goalkeeper James Beggs for the 1-0 lead.

With just five minutes remaining in the half, Mobile got the equalizer from freshman, newcomer Andrew Humphris.  After a long cross from the other side of the field, Humphris settled the ball at his feet and then fired a line drive into the upper right corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second half, each team had numerous chances to score with each team hitting the crossbar and post with near misses.

Neither team could muster anything in the two overtime periods as the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.

AUM meets Oklahoma Baptist tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in game three of the 2005 O'Charley's Futbol Festival.  Mobile will face Holy Names University in the final game of the tournament Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
