Grande defeats AUM, 2-0 in first game of the O'Charley's Futbol Festival
MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Rio Grande (5-0-0) got a goal
from Wayne Maden in the 16th minute and added another goal from Guy Heywood
in the 36th minute as the Redmen cruised to an easy 2-0 victory over Auburn
University-Montgomery Friday night in the first game of the O'Charley's
Futbol Festival played on the University of Mobile campus in Mobile, Alabama.
After Benn Hughes sent a free direct
kick inside of the 18-yard box, Maden found himself wide open in the
right corner of the goal and headed up in the kick to give the Redmen
the early lead.
Leading 1-0, Heywood tapped in the second
goal after a deflected pass found its way through the Senator defense
making the score 2-0 at halftime.
The Redmen had just four shots on goal
in the game, but scored on half of them.
AUM (2-1-0) return to action tomorrow,
Saturday, Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m. against Thomas University in game three
of the O'Charley's Futbol Festival. Thomas lost to host school,
Mobile, tonight, 1-0.
Rio Grande will meet Mobile tomorrow,
Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the fourth and final game of the O'Charley's
Futbol Festival.
