Rams Come Up Big and Beat #7 AUM
MOBILE, Ala— The University of Mobile men's soccer team had to wait an extra week to host the undefeated Auburn University-Montgomery Senators, but it was well worth the wait for Mobile.
The Rams got outstanding goal keeping from Adrian Rochofski and took down the Region XIII foe 2-0, to move to 3-2-1 on the year and move the current win streak to 3 games. It's also the 3rd-straight shutout for Rochofski.
Things looked bleak early for Mobile, as a foul in the penalty box gave the Senators a penalty kick with 26:30 left to play in the opening frame. But, Rochofski guessed right, dove to his left and made the big save to give Mobile momentum. Twenty-two minutes later, the roles were reversed, only the Rams made use of their golden opportunity.
David Suchodolski was taken down in the AUM box, and thus Mobile got a penalty kick of their own at the 4:17 mark of the first half. Matt Watts took the shot and out-guessed the Senators' keeper for the opening score of the contest.
Things stayed 1-0 for the first 30:30 of the 2nd frame, but Caetano Lima took matters into his own hands to stretch the lead and give the Rams some breathing room. Lima swiped the ball from the Senators near midfield and out-raced the defense to the top of the box, before blasting the ball inside the near post at the 14:31 mark.
Auburn-Montgomery actually out-paced the Rams with a 9-5 edge in shots on goal, but Rochofski backed up his defense, and Mobile took advantage of its opportunities.
