Rams Take Down Cumberlands 1-0
MOBILE,
Ala. – The University of Mobile men's soccer team continued its winning ways, by downing visiting Cumberlands 1-0 to move its win-streak to 4.
The Rams, riding high after taking down #7 Auburn-Montgomery 2 days earlier, got a 1st-half goal from Onesimus Ikongo and held on late to win.
Fifteen minutes into the opening frame, Ikongo took possession of the ball at midfield and then unleashed all of his skills in a matter of seconds. The freshman used his speed to out-race the nearest Cumberlands defender, then faked out another defender to get to the box, before using his powerful right-foot to knock the ball past the keeper for the deciding score.
From there, the Rams' defense took over. Cumberlands got multiple scoring opportunities late, but goalkeeper Adrian Rochofski and his defenders were up to the challenge. Rochofski, who pitched his 4th shutout in a row, came up with 6 saves, and the Rams' defenders deterred multiple other attacks from Cumberlands.
Mobile moves to 4-2-1 on the season and will next travel to Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe William Carey Tuesday, Sept 25th for a 7:00 pm start.
