Rams Beat Badgers For Conference Win
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's soccer team stopped a 3-game skid, picked up a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory and gave Head Coach Peter Fuller his 300th career victory Saturday with a 3-0 victory over rival Spring Hill College.
Both teams played to a defensive tune in a scoreless opening half with few scoring opportunities. The second half was a different story, as the Rams came out and controlled the tempo with 3 goals. Mobile finished the game with an 11-5 shot advantage, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on target.
The first goal of the game came just over one minute into the final period, when Ruben Diaz found the back of the net for the only goal the Rams would need. But, Mobile did not stop there, tacking on a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes of action.
Matt Watts knocked home a penalty kick with 16:31 remaining thanks to a Badger handball in the box. While the Rams' defense prevented the Badgers from making a game of it, Diaz tacked on the final goal with just over 8 minutes left.
Mobile (4-4-2, 1-1-0) next hosts Thomas University October 4th at 6:00 pm. Fuller's career record stands at 300-109-27, with a 186-79-16 mark at Mobile. Since taking over at Mobile in 1995, Fuller has guided the Rams to 9 National Tournament appearances, including a National Championship in 2002. Thirty-eight Rams have been named NAIA All-American in Fuller's tenure.
