Men's
Soccer Falls to No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College
COLUMBIA, Ky. –
Playing in temperatures that hovered around the freezing point,
the University of Mobile Rams lost 4-0 to 3rd-ranked
Lindsey Wilson College Thursday night in Columbia, Kentucky.
Despite the cold weather, the winner of six of the last eight
NAIA National Championships were able to turn up the heat on
Mobile out-shooting them 17-3 for the game. Sophomore
mid-fielder Brian Ombiji scored a goal and recorded two assists
in leading Lindsey Wilson to a victory over the defending
national champions.
Trailing just 1-0 at halftime, the Rams came out in the second
half looking to tie the score. However, just one minute in,
Ombiji got behind the Ram's defense and beat Mobile goalkeeper
Tommy Sarkinnen with a shot to the near post. Sarkinnen
appeared to make the save but the ball came loose and trickled
into the goal pushing their lead to 2-0.
With just five minutes remaining in the contest, Yann Japaud
scored the final two goals of the match just 34 seconds apart
sending Lindsey Wilson to a 9-1 record on the season.
Mobile falls to 6-3 on the season with one game remaining on the
current three-game road trip. The trip comes to a close on
Saturday, Oct. 4 when the Rams square off against Mid-Continent
College at 2 p.m.
