Men's Soccer Drops Final Game of the three-game road trip

MAYFIELD, Ky. – Guillermo Ferrando scored two goals including the game-winner in the 82nd minute as Mid-Continent College defeated the University of Mobile 4-3 Saturday afternoon in Mayfield Kentucky.

Mobile, which was playing their third game in a five-day stretch, fell behind 1-0 in the sixth minute on an own goal.

However, just two minutes later, Mobile fought back and scored to tie the game at 1-1.  On a direct free kick from just outside the 18 yard-box, Robert Longhurst struck a ball to the far side of the post where a wide open Darren Toby was there to slip the ball past Mid-Continent goalkeeper Sebastian Perez.

In the 40th minute, momentum swung again in Mobile’s favor as they were able to capitalize on another free kick to take a 2-1 lead.  Senior All-American defender Jamie Ferguson sent the free kick into the 18-yard box area where it flew over Perez’s head and was kicked in by sophomore Jason Miniaci.

Unable to hold the lead for long, Mid-Continent struck at the heart of the Mobile players by scoring two goals in the last five minutes of the first half to take a 3-2 lead into the locker-room.

After a rough and very physical second half, Ferrando sealed the victory with his second goal of the afternoon in the 82nd minute.  As he did in the first half, Ferrando got a head on another ball that was played into the 18-yard box from teammate Rodrigo Pardo.

Toby added his second goal of the game for the Rams with about five minutes to play to the cut the Mid-Continent lead to 4-3.  Mobile missed on a few opportunities to tie the game before time eventually ran out on their comeback attempt.

The loss ends Mobile’s current three-game road trip at 1-2.  Mobile opened the trip by knocking off William Carey College 4-1 before losing to Lindsey Wilson College 4-0.
