Mobile routes Cumberland, 5-2
MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile men's soccer team
snapped a two-game losing streak by posting a 5-2 victory over Cumberland
University Saturday night during Homecoming at the University of Mobile.
Freshman Stephen Oyuga got the scoring going in the first
half with a header into
the back of the net giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Next, junior Mark Robinson scored on a direct free kick giving the Rams
a 2-0 lead and Pete Rantala scored his first goal of the season on an
assist from Darren Spong to give the Rams a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Early in the second half, the Bulldogs cut into the UM lead with a nice
give-and-go play decreasing the Rams lead to 3-1.
However, Mobile would come right back on a goal from K.K. Lima to put
the Rams back up by three goals, 4-1.
Finally, Rantala notched his second goal of the game extending the Mobile
lead to 5-1 and rounding out the scoring for UM on the night.
Cumberland added a late goal but Mobile held on for the 5-2 victory.
The Rams improve to 2-4-2 on the season and prepare for a trip to the
west coast next week. The Rams leave on Wednesday for California where
they will face Biola University on Thursday, Azusa Pacific University
on Saturday and Westmont College on Monday.
