MOBILE, Ala. –
While the Rams (7-4) got on the board early with a header by Robby
Longhurst, it was a six goal flood in the second half that vaulted the
Rams to a convincing 7-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene University (8-6).
Serving the ball in from the
right corner, midfielder Ruben Risco created a perfect opportunity on
the back post for an incoming Longhurst who headed the ball into the
back of the net to give Mobile its first goal of the game.
Overcoming an afternoon that
was wrought with poor officiating, the Rams would wait until the 67th
minute before striking again. A corner played in by Kevin Laux was
headed in by Trinidad national team member Dean Logan, giving UM a 2-0
lead.
Just three minutes later
sophomore Jason Miniaci, after getting the ball from Laux fifteen yards
past the midfield, ripped a 20 yard shot past the Trevecca Trojans
keeper for a 3-0 lead.
After providing the two
previous assists, Laux notched a goal of his own as he tucked a 20 yard
direct kick under the crossbar for a 4-0 lead.
Another goal by Darren Toby, an
own goal by Trevecca’s Jonathan Duranceau, and a PK by Dean Logan and
the Rams were heading home having put an end to a two-game losing skid
and a date with St. Thomas University, Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
