Mobile loses to 3rd-ranked AUM
4-2
MOBILE, Ala. – The 4th-ranked University of Mobile men’s soccer team (11-2-1) lost to
3rd-ranked AUM 4-2 at home tonight. Playing one man up, after Mobile’s Joel Bartlett
received a red card in the 18th minute, the AUM Senators were
relentless as they stormed to a 2-0 half-time lead and held on for the
victory.
Taking advantage of a miscommunication in the Mobile defense, AUM’s
Michael Ritch scored the Senator’s first goal in the 27th
minute.
The
Senators, who out-shot the Rams 16-to-6, struck again in the 35th
minute. Playing a sensational combination, AUM’s Sigthor Juliusson scored
on an assist from sophomore Masego Nthshingane, who in turn had flicked on
from Montgomery native Brian Dupree.
The
Senators, up 2-0, came storming out of the half time gates with an early
second half goal. Getting caught in transition, the Rams could not get back
to cover AUM’s Christian Cuevas who scored in the 50th minute.
The Rams got on the board in the 55th minute. Mobile’s Teba
McKnight came up with the ball, after a scramble outside the 18 yard box,
and ripped a shot bringing Mobile to within two.
AUM’s Michael Ritch, a native of Tallassee, Ala., answered the call again as
he scored in the 68th minute, thanks to an assist by freshman
Damien Giminez.
Awarded a penalty kick after freshman Carron Williams was taken down in
the box, Mobile’s James Gledhill scored the final goal of the evening
in the 80th minute.
AUM
moves to 10-1-1 on the season and will gear up for a game against
Reinhardt College on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd.
The Rams will hit the road for St. Louis as they play 7th-ranked
Lindenwood College Sunday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
