Men's Soccer Wins Badger Fall
Classic
MOBILE, Ala. -- Four different players scored for the
Rams including two goals from senior Mike Fricke as the University of
Mobile rolled to a 5-1 win Saturday afternoon over North Georgia
University.
With the win on Saturday, the Rams won the Badger
Fall Classic held at Spring Hill College. Mobile defeated St. Thomas
University 6-1 on Friday and then North Georgia 5-1 on Saturday.
Spring Hill defeated North Georgia 7-0 on Friday night and lost to St.
Thomas 6-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams got things going early on with a goal off a
corner kick from Kevin Laux. Laux, who had two assists in the game, sent
the corner kick to the far post where Jamie Ferguson out-leaped the North
Georgia goalkeeper and headed in his third goal of the season giving UM a
1-0 lead.
Twelve minutes later, Dean Logan pushed the lead to
2-0 with his third goal of the weekend. North Georgia cut the lead in
half in the 29th minute scoring on a corner kick of their own.
However, freshman Thiago Ramos responded right back less than 40 seconds
later on an assist from Darren Toby.
The Rams defense pitched a second-half shutout and
Fricke added two second-half goals giving the Rams all the offense they
would need.
UM has now outscored their opponents 18-2 during the
team’s recent three-game win streak. The Rams will return to the field
next Wednesday, Oct. 22 when they face cross-town rival Spring Hill
College at 7 p.m. in The Jungle.
