Rams Topple 7th-Ranked Berry College

ROME, Ga—The University of Mobile men’s soccer team picked up a huge win Saturday afternoon, by knocking off #7 Berry College 3-2 on the road.

The 8th-ranked Rams out-shot the Vikings 15-9 in the contest and used a pair of early 2nd-half goals to put the previously 13-1 Vikes away.

Geert Slits opened the scoring for the Rams, when he scored from 20 yards out with a volley over his shoulder. Five minutes later, at the 27:46 mark, Derrick Colbert answered for Berry by knocking in a cross at the back post.

The score stayed that way into halftime, and then the Rams scored a pair of goals in the opening 14 minutes of the second period to walk away with the victory.

Ruben Diaz picked up his 11th goal of the season for Mobile, when he scored unassisted from 5 yards out. At the 59:48 mark, Jack St. Hilaire found Onesimus Ikongo at the top of the 18-yard box and Ikongo volleyed the ball into the back of the net for the decisive goal.

The Vikings added a score late, but Adrian Rochofski came up with a pair of saves in the 2nd half to keep the Rams in the lead.

Mobile moves to 13-2-1 on the season and will take their 13-game winning streak on the road to the University of West Florida Monday, October 22nd for a 7:00 pm battle.
