MOBILE ESCAPES WITH DOUBLE OVERTIME WIN OVER SPRING HILL
MOBILE, Ala. – Playing in front of the largest crowd
ever assembled at the UM Jungle, the 18th-ranked Rams came away
with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over cross-town rival, Spring Hill
College. And while the Rams out-shot the Badgers 18-7 and went one man up
in the 74th minute (after Spring Hill goalkeeper Thomas Kuzma
received a red card) it would take Mobile nearly 30 minutes before they
were able to capitalize on their advantage.
Spring Hill got on the board quickly as Juan-Diego
Espinoza recovered a loose ball in the 1st minute of play and
ripped a shot from 30 yards out to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.
It would not be until the 52nd minute that
the Rams responded. A long throw in by Joel Bartlett was flicked on by
Brady Bryant to Darren Toby who got the header to go and tie the game 1-1.
Brady Bryant, on an open breakaway in the 74th
minute, was fouled by Spring Hill’s goalkeeper, Thomas Kuzma. Coming off
his line to stop Bryant, Kuzma was called for the foul which garnered him
an automatic red card. And while the Rams had a one man advantage, it
would not be until the 102nd minute of play that Mobile would
score the golden goal.
A corner kick taken by Mark Robinson was headed in by
Dean Logan giving the Rams the win and a 10-4 overall record.
After a hard fought battle, the Badgers drop to 7-9
overall.
The Rams will now prepare for their
homecoming match against Covenant College this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
