MOBILE WINS OVERTIME THRILLER OVER COVENANT COLLEGE
MOBILE, Ala. –
McGill Toolen High School alumni, Rueban Risco lifted the 18th-ranked
Rams to a 3-2 overtime win over Covenant College (9-7). Improving to 11-4
on the season, Mobile will now prepare for their final game of the regular
season against Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
After receiving a great service in the 18 yard box by
Mike Fricke Mobile’s Darren Toby beat his defender and ripped a shot to
give the Rams a 1-0 advantage in the 18th minute.
Covenant would return the favor early in the second
half as Chris Cushenbery tied the game 1-1 in the 48th minute.
The Scots struck again in the 81st minute.
Misjudging a ball, Mobile central defender Steven Linpow opened the door
for a breakaway goal by Tim Cobb, giving Covenant a 2-1 advantage.
On a clear breakaway to the goal, UM’s Toby was taken
down and subsequently awarded a penalty kick. Taking the kick and scoring
was Dean Logan in the 85th minute, sending the game into
overtime.
After the
Rams pressed for most of the overtime period, it was Mobile native, Rueban
Risco, who gave UM an important win as the team quickly approaches the
post season.
