UM Men win regular
season finale 2-0 over Brescia University
MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The University of Mobile (11-4-1)
closed out their regular season with a 2-0 victory over Brescia University
(15-3-1) Friday afternoon in game played at the University of Montevallo
in Montevallo, Alabama.
The Rams were forced to make up this game today after
their original game with Brescia was cancelled on Oct. 18 due to inclement
weather.
After a scoreless first half, the Rams finally got things
going in the 68th minute on a goal by Junior Pamponette. Pamponette,
who receieved the ball off a long throw in by Mathias Kruskemper, turned
towards the goal and fired a hard shot into the right corner of the
goal for a 1-0 lead.
Just 15 minutes later, the Rams capitalized again. This
time, the Rams used a free kick to find the back of the net. Edgar
Morales began the play by laying the ball out to Andres Rota, who fired
a shot into a charging defense.
The ball deflected off of the defensive wall and scooted
right towards sophomore Travis Bailey who took full advantage by scoring
just his second goal of the season giving Mobile a commanding 2-0 lead.
Mobile outshot Brescia 18-11 in the game and took one
more shot on goal than did Brescia.
James Beggs came up big again for the Rams saving seven
shots and recording his fifth shutout of the season
Pamponette was credited with the game-winning goal, his
second game-winning goal of the season.
The Rams will take the next week off while preparing
the Region XIII Tournament. The tournament will begin on Saturday,
Nov. 6.
