MOBILE SLIPS AND SLIDES TO FINAL REGULAR SEASON WIN
CEDARVILLE, Ohio. – The 14th-ranked UM Rams defeated Cedarville College
(12-5-2) 1-0 in their final regular season game. Mobile, now 12-4 on the
season, had a tough go of it as they played in wet conditions and managed
to avert some extremely close calls.
Finally breaking through Cedarville’s offside trap,
Brady Bryant scored on a header in the 35th minute. Splicing through the
Yellow Jackets’ defense, Darren Toby notched the assist as he served the
ball to the back post where a diving Bryant gave the Rams the game winner.
Both teams had opportunities to score as Dean Logan
was unable to get a penalty kick to go in the 51st minute, and
Scott Yadon had to clear a ball off the line as Cedarville nearly scored
in the second half.
The Rams
will now prepare for the Region XIII tournament. Should Mobile capture the
six-team tournament championship they will earn an automatic bid to the
NAIA National Tournament. With tonight’s win however, the Rams also stand
an outside chance of garnering one of five at-large bids.
