Rams headed to Tennessee for Semi-Final game

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile Rams men's soccer team pulled off an overtime victory to advance in the Region XIII Tournament. The Rams defeated Shorter College 2-1 in the first overtime period after both teams traded goals in regulation.

Mobile jumped out in front early when Shorter's Brendon Charles accidently headed the ball past his own goalie for an own goal at the 15 minute mark. The goalkeeper was coming out to field the ball, when Charles turned and headed it back, thinking the goalkeeper was in his original position. Mobile fans cheered as the ball trickled past the line.

The lead stood until Shorter's Robert Whitnell knocked home a goal 20 minutes into the second half. The goal was the only blemish on a otherwise solid day by James Beggs, who finished with 7 saves for the Rams.

The tie stood, until Jack St. Hilaire won the game 5 minutes into sudden-death overtime. The Shorter keeper came out thinking he could field a cross, and left room for Hilaire to chip it past him for the game-winner.

Mobile will travel to Lee University Wednesday night for the semi-final matchup.
