Watts Named Player of the Year

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the 2008 Men’s Soccer All-Conference selections, and the University of Mobile men placed 6 players on the team.

Matt Watts highlighted the honors, as the senior was named the GCAC Player of the Year after anchoring the Mobile defense and finding time to tally 5 goals and 5 assists for the 22nd-ranked Rams.

Joining Watts as defensive selections were Jason Williams (Goalkeeper) and Thomas Wharf (Defender). David Maddren was an honorable mention selection as a defender.

Williams allowed 1 goal or less in 9 of 14 starts in goal for Mobile while picking up 9 victories. Wharf contributed 2 goals and 3 assists for the Rams while helping Watts lead the defense. Maddren tallied 2 goals and 2 assists for the Rams with 1 game-winner.

At forward, Ruben Diaz and Jack St. Hilaire were named to the honorary team. Diaz leads the Rams with 9 goals and 8 assists for 26 points, and is tied for the team lead with 2 game-winning tallies. Hilaire is tied for 3rd on the team with 4 goals, with 2 of them being game-winners.
