Williams National Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the tenth and final installment of the NAIA Men’s Soccer national weekly honors, and Mobile’s Jason Williams was named National Defensive Player of the Week.

Williams came up big in goal for the Rams with a pair of shutouts as Mobile breezed through the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with 2-0 victories over Belhaven College and 14th-ranked William Carey University.

The sophomore was brilliant in the semifinal win over Belhaven College with 5 saves. All of the saves were either outstanding diving snags or stops against an attacker that had beaten the defense into the 18-yard box.

Williams then followed that up with a pair of saves against the Crusaders to help the Rams advance to a Nov. 14 play-in game for a trip to the NAIA National Tournament. Mobile will host Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champ Mountain State Friday at 4 pm.

The goalkeeper has allowed only seven goals over the last nine games for the Rams, including only a pair of goals allowed over five GCAC matches.
