UM Seeks To Capture First
Region Title Since 2000
MOBILE, Ala. – The 9th-ranked University
of Mobile men’s soccer team (14-4) will make their last home stand as they
square off against the 10th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery
Senators (14-3-1) in the championship game of the Region 13 Tournament.
Should the Rams win the game, scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. on Saturday,
Nov. 15, they will secure an automatic bid to the NAIA National
Tournament.
The long-awaited and much anticipated match-up pits
two teams that have taken similar roads yet for the first time in five
years have not faced each other in the regular season.
On paper the two teams enter the region final nearly
evenly matched. Of the ten opponents that both teams have faced this
season (Lindsey Wilson, North Georgia, William Carey, Spring Hill, Thomas,
Covenant, Belhaven, Mid-Continent, Berry and Southern Wesleyan) AUM has
outscored their opponents 31-13 while the defending national champions
have done so 28-15.
The Rams
last won the Region 13 title in 2000 with a 2-1 win over AUM at the
Senator’s home in Montgomery, Ala. Last year they lost to the Senator’s
2-1 in the regional final and entered the NAIA National Tournament with an
at-large bid and a No. 5 seed.
