Rams tie with West Florida 1-1 in exhibition match
MOBILE,
Ala. – The University of Mobile men's soccer team continued its quest to get ready for the 2006 campaign by hosting West Florida for their 2nd warm-up game of the year.
The teams played 3 30 minute periods in the exhibition match. The first period saw little threat either way early on. West Florida changed that by scoring on a rebound when a UM defender went down off the initial shot.
Mobile countered the score in the 2nd period when Junior Lance Nelson scored on a through-ball from Darren Spong. Nelson has both goals in Mobile short exhibition season in 2006.
Although Mobile was the agressor in the 3rd and final period by keeping the pressure on and getting numerous looks, the score stayed 1-1. In an exhibition game, the score rarely is the focus of the match. The Rams are trying to work in a new system and that was their main focus.
"The biggest thing was getting a chance to play against another team," Head Coach Peter Fuller said. "When practicing and playing against ourselves it's hard to see what the best combo's are."
This was progress in the right direction and coach says the team got what he wanted out of the game, but they still have to continue progressing toward the new system.
