Defending national
champions open up with 1-0 win over Brescia
MOBILE, Ala. – The preseason 2nd-ranked
University of Mobile men’s soccer team won the opening game of
the season defeating Brescia University, 1-0 Friday evening at
Spring Hill College.
In the third minute of play, UM senior
defender Jamie Ferguson started off the season much the same way
he started it last year, as the team-leading scorer. With a
direct kick opportunity, the 2002 1st Team
All-American bypassed a four-man wall set up by the Brescia
University Bearcats, and sent a shot to the top shelf of the
goal to give the defending national champions the 1-0 win.
Talking about tonight’s win, Rams Head
Coach, Peter Fuller commented, “For where we’re at I’m pleased.
We did some good things, some things we need to correct, but
it’s exactly what you’d expect given the fact that we’ve been
together for only twelve days.”
The men will return to action on Sunday
afternoon when they face off with Kendall College at 12:45 p.m
on the Spring Hill Campus.
