Rams Shutout Lambuth University 2-0

MOBILE, Ala. – Brady Bryant scored two goals and freshman goalkeeper Brent Grube recorded his second shut-out of the season as the as the University of Mobile defeated Lambuth University 2-0 Saturday night in the Jungle.

After controlling the ball for nearly the entire first half, Mobile finally broke through on a corner kick in the 22nd minute.  Robert Longhurst, a freshman defender, served a ball into the center of the box where Jamie Ferguson headed a shot off the crossbar.  Following up the play was senior Brady Bryant, who cleaned up Ferguson’s miss with a rocket into the upper left corner of the goal.

The Mobile defense allowed just one shot attempt for the entire first half from the Eagles, none on goal.  Offside penalties limited the Rams scoring opportunities as the Rams were flagged four times in the first half.

In the second half, Brady recorded his second goal of the night on a give-and-go play with teammate Rueben Risco.  After dropping the ball off to Risco in front of the goal, Risco drove a shot at Lambuth goalkeeper David Logue that deflected off his arms and landed right in front of Bryant.  As he did on his first goal, Bryant followed up another Ram’s miss with a shot into the back of the net.

The Rams showed few affects tonight from a 13 day layoff between games.  Before tonight, the Rams had not played since a 1-0 loss on Sept. 14 against Thomas University in the Berry Tournament.

"If you take 13 days off, you can do all the fitness you want, but you have to be match-fit," said UM head coach Peter Fuller.  "We really aren't right now and that showed up tonight.  For 75 or 80 minutes we were really sound defensively.  We got a little fatigued at the end of the game and I'm not surprised by that."

With the win, the Rams improve their overall record to 5-2 on the season and will next be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 30 when the team travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a 1 p.m. showdown with conference-rival William Carey College.
