2003 Men's Soccer

Brady
Bryant
Brady returns for his senior season and is
expected to lead the Ram's offensive attack by using his unique
combination of strength and speed. Bryant came over to Mobile
after spending a season at The Citadel, a Division I team. Bryant
has also played for American club teams including the CSC Elite,
the PDL Chicago Eagles and most recently the West Michigan Edge.

Brent Grube
Brent makes his way down to the University of
Mobile from Hudsonville, Michigan where he was a two-time
All-District Player and a 2002 All-Conference Player as a GK at
Hudsonville, High School. Grube has previously played with the
A.C. Storm, Georgetown Rangers, the Jenison Summer League and the
Grandville Summer League.

Brian Taylor
Taylor was named to the Bryant All-Tournament
Team during both the 2000 and 2002 seasons. Was also named to the
Bobcat Classic All-Tournament Team in 2002 while playing for his
high school team, the Mary G. Montgomery Vikings of Semmes,
Alabama.

Chris Oakley
Oakley hails from Athens, Alabama where he
was an All-State Honorable Mention at Athens High School. Oakley
scored five goals in his senior season and dished out eight
assists in helping to lead his team to the state semi-finals.

Dean Logan
This incoming freshman represented his home
country of Trindad and Tobago by playing for the U-17, U-23 and
Senior National Team. Dean is a hard-nosed player that was voted
“Most Dedicated Player” by his Starworld Strikers teammates.

Joel Bartlett
Bartlett, a Huntsville, Alabama native, set a
school record by scoring 51 goals in one season for Grissom High
School. Was named the “Best Offensive Player” in high school. An
All-State selection, Bartlett helped lead his high school team to
two state championships. Bartlett offers a unique dynamic to the
Ram’s offensive attack.

James Ferguson
James proved to be a vital part of last year’s
national championship team by playing in all but ten minutes of
the entire season. A solid defender with a lot of club experience,
Ferguson has played for St Cuthbert’s High School, F.A. Durham, F.A.
Dundee and Whitby Town. Ferguson secured various awards last
season including Defensive MVP for the 2002 season, 2002
All-Tournament Team, 2002 All-Conference Team as well as being
named a 2002 First-Team All-American.

Johani
Koivuranta
Johani comes to the University of Mobile as an
incoming freshman from Helsinki, Finland. Koivuranta has spent time
playing for numerous club teams in Finland, including the youth
teams of FC Kontu,
Atlantis FC, Malminpalloseura, Finnpa and Pui U. |

Jason
Miniaci
Jason arrives at the University of Mobile
campus from Edmonton, Canada where he played his soccer at
Archbishop O’Leary High School. Miniaci also participated in the
the AMSL Victoria Major League as well as the Alberta Summer
Games. Miniaci was named team MVP of his high school team in
the 2001-02 season. He set a school record for most
goals in two consecutive games. Member of last year's UM
National Championship team.

Joshua West
Joshua comes to Mobile from just down the road
in Saraland, where he played four seasons at Satsuma High School.
West was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2003 Kane
Classic.

Jason young
Jason will be entering as
a freshmen this season at the University of Mobile. Young is
a 2002 graduate of Biloxi High School.

Kevin Laux
Laux is a critical part of
the Ram’s set pieces and will be brought in during special
situations this season. Has perhaps, the best work ethic on the
team and is looked upon for leadership from his teammates.
Originally from Covington, Louisiana, Laux played for
Fountainbleau High School and also his club team, the Convington
Lightening.

Michael
Fricke
A
returning starter from the national championship team of a year
ago, Fricke will be looked upon this season for more solid
midfield play and his senior leadership. A former Washington
All-State team member, Fricke leads a very talented group of
midfield. Playing mostly as a defensive minded midfielder,
Fricke scored a timely goal in the national championship game last season
against Union College in a 2-1 victory.

Mark
Robinson
This former Newcastle United youth team member will join the Rams
this coming fall as a freshman from Cramlington, Northumberland.
Robinson also played for the Wallsend Boys Club as well as the
Cramlington Juniors. He was voted “Player of the Year” four
years in a row by both his local team and Newcastle United. |

Nathan
Grube
A
transfer from Grace Bible College, Grube was a 2002 NCCAA
Second-Team All-American and a NCCAA Division II First-Team
All-American. Grube finished in the top five in both goals and
points scored for the 2001-02 season. Grube honed his skills for
soccer by playing with various club teams which include the A.C.
Storm and the Charlotte Eagles Tour Team. |

Robert
Longhurst
Longhurst comes to the University of
Mobile from Eastbourne College. Originally from East Sussex,
England, he has played with the Brentford F.C. and Eastbourne
Borough F.C. youth teams.

Rueben
Risco
Ruben set
a single season school record of 34 goals while playing at
McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Alabama. He also played with
club powers the Enterprise Rage, Capital City Streaks and Vestavia
Steamers. He was voted McGill-Toolen team “Most Valuable Player,”
“Most Valuable Offensive Player,” and “Rookie of the Year.”

Steven
Linpow
Linpow’s presence has been a steady fixture in the Ram’s defense
during his tenure at Mobile. Linpow, a senior, has worked very
hard since arriving on campus and has garnered many honors
including a 1999 All-Conference selection and he was also named as
a 2001 First-Team All-American. Linpow has also played in the
club system with A.F.C. Bournemouth, Portmouth F.C. and The Edge. |

Schyler
Reed
A hometown product, Reed comes to the University of Mobile from
Saraland, AL where he played at Satsuma High School.

Scott Yadon
Yadon logged some valuable playing time this past summer with the West
Michigan Edge of the PDL. He will add depth to an already
talented backfield. Originally from Federal Way,
Washington, Yadon played his high school ball at Decatur High
School.

Tommy
Sarkinnen
Tommi returns for his sophomore season and is expected to be moved into
the starting GK position, replacing All-American Andrew Bayliss.
Sarkkinen, a Helsinki, Finland product, played with four club teams
FC Honlea, FC Hule, FC Jolerit and FC Atlantis. In addition, he was voted Best
Player in the Dana Cup in Denmark. |

Jordan
Wilson
Prepping at Loyola College
Preparatory, Wilson was a Louisiana All-State team selection in
1999 and 2000 and was the All-District MVP his senior year. He
also played for the Shreveport Futbol Club. Last season Wilson
logged in valuable minutes at the NAIA National Tournament,
where he gave stellar play at the defensive center midfield
position. |

Greg Bonar
Playing for his provincial team
and the AMSL (Alberta Major Soccer League) Bonar returns to
Mobile after red-shirting last season. A native of Edmonton,
Canada, Bonar starred at the keeper position for his provincial
team that won five championships. This season he will be the
back-up keeper for Tommi Sarkkinen. |

Darren Toby
A Trinidad U-23 National Team
member, Toby was the team-leading scorer while playing for the
St. Clairs Coaching School. In addition he was named the school
league MVP in 2001 and served as team captain from 2001-2002. |

Thiago
Silva Thiago, a Business Administration major,
comes to the University of Mobile from his home city of Dos
Perdoes, Brazil. Silva has prior experience playing for a year
each with the Guarani and Sao Joncalo youth teams of the Brazilian
youth club
league.
