Rams Fall In First-Place Battle
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team fell 9-0 to 24th-ranked Xavier University Thursday afternoon in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action.
Both teams entered the match with unblemished records in GCAC action, now Xavier has a 1-game lead in the conference standings.
Xavier started the match by taking all 3 doubles matches and then finished off the clean sweep in singles action.
Mario Myles-Miroslav Vukicevic defeated Alejandro Vial-Guilherme Lorencon 8-5, Vusumzi Kempele-Terry Richardson defeated Gustavo Godoi-Jesus Urmeneta 8-1 and Mikheil Vaval Desse-Matthew Walker took down Ricky Weghorst-Shaun Wintzell by an 8-4 margin.
In singles play, Vukicevic defeated Vial 4-6, 1-2 (default), Vaval-Desse took down Lorencon 6-2, 3-6 (6-10), Richardson defeated Wintzell 4-6, 0-6, Myles beat Weghorst 1-6, 3-6, Kempele took down Godoi 4-6, 2-6, and Knowles finished off Urmeneta 1-6, 3-6.
Mobile falls to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in GCAC action. The Rams will look to return the favor Thursday, March 27th at 3:00 when Mobile takes on Xavier at the University of New Orleans' Tennis Facilities.
