UM Bringing Back Men's Tennis MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile has announced that they are reinstating the men's tennis program, beginning next season. "We are pleased to bring back such a successful program and look forward to the men's tennis program adding to our athletic program's already long list of accomplishments," Vice President of Campus Affairs Mike Blaylock said. While it will be a new program next season, men's tennis has quite a storied history at the university. Men's tennis previously was part of the University of Mobile's athletic program from 1987-98, before being cut. In that span, the program captured 2 of the University's 8 national championships, by winning the NAIA National Tournament in 1993 and 1997. Competing in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, the men's tennis program ended on a high note, reeling off 7 consecutive GCAC championships from 1992-98. The Rams will play their home matches at one of the south's top facilities, in the Gerald B. Wallace Tennis Center. The center features 10 courts, 5 of which were resurfaced in June of 2005. The Rams recently named Uwe Tittl the Head Coach of the new program. Click HERE for more. -30- |
