Mobile Men At GCAC Tournament

JACKSON, Miss-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team fell 5-1 to 24th-ranked Xavier University in the finals of the GCAC Tournament late Friday night.

The two teams played only singles matches due to the delay and the Rams could only salvage one victory. In the #1 singles battle, Alejandro Vial rallied to defeat his opponent 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and lock up the GCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year.

In other singles matches, Jesus Urmeneta fell 0-6, 2-6; Ricky Weghorst fell 3-6, 4-6; Shaun Wintzell lost 1-6, 1-6; Guilherme Lorencon fell 3-6, 2-6 and Gustavo Godoi fell 7-6 (4), 6-2.

The Rams are now 9-5 on the season and will compete at the Region XIII Tournament in Rome, GA next weekend.

Semifinals: Mobile 5 - SHC 0

The University of Mobile men's tennis team defeated Spring Hill College in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Friday evening by a 5-0 score.

The UM men cruised against Spring Hill by a 5-0 score to advance to the GCAC Finals versus Xavier later tonight. Mobile is 3-0 against the rival Badgers this season.

On the men's side, the Rams set the tone by taking all three doubles matches and then cruised in singles. Alejandro Vial/ Guilherme Lorencon won 8-4, Shaun Wintzell/Ricky Weghorst won 8-1, and Gustavo Godoi/ Sam Perlmutter rounded out the doubles action with an 8-1 win.

In singles, Weghorst cruised 6-0, 6-0 and Godoi finished off the match 6-0, 6-1 for the 5-0 victory. The Rams move to 9-4 on the season. Mobile is ranked 6th in Region XIII and will compete in the Region XIII Tournament next weekend in Rome, GA.
