Mobile Cross Country Signs Local Product
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's cross country program announced the signing of Baker High School product Jeffrey Caviness for the 2008 season.
According to Baker High School Coach Paul Agnew, Caviness is the first Baker runner to continue his career at the collegiate level, and Mobile Head Coach Holly Person feels he is a perfect fit for what the Rams are trying to build.
"Jeffrey will be a great addition to our team on and off the trails," Person said. "This next season looks very promising with talented runners like Jeffrey, who will be competing for the top five scoring spots. We are all extremely excited that Jeffrey has chosen to become part of our family here at the University of Mobile."
He helped Baker's team earn a third place finish at the Section meet this year, and ran a solid time at the Section meet before going on to post a personal record of 18:44 at the state meet. That left a lasting impression on Coach Agnew, who reiterates Person's comments about Caviness being a great fit at Mobile.
"It is truly a mark of a dedicated competitor that in his final race at the high school level, he posts his personal best time,"
Agnew said. "I believe that Jeffrey's potential has not yet been fully reached, and I am confident that under Coach Person's guidance Jeffrey is going to continue to achieve at a high level while at the University of Mobile."
