UM Cross Country Opens Season

JACKSONVILLE, Ala—The University of Mobile men’s cross country team began a 2007 season Saturday that has been 3 years in the making.

The University of Mobile was forced to cut the cross country programs after 2003-04 season due to budgetary concerns, and the programs were brought back for competition this season.

New Head Coach Holly Person got a late start recruiting runners and knows this season is just 1 step in building the programs back where they were in the past.

Even so, Person was encouraged by Saturday’s opening meet at Jacksonville State University.

“I was really pleased with the effort and production that the boy’s brought,” Person said. “Several set personal bests and this is a nice start to the season.”

Normally the men’s teams will run an 8K (4.97 miles), but for this meet, they ran a 5K (3 miles). As a team, Mobile finished 5th out of 6 schools, beating out Fort Valley State University.
