UM Soccer Teams Finish New York Tournaments

Mobile Men Fall Short

HOUGHTON, NY—The University of Mobile men’s soccer team again played a close contest, and again couldn’t pull out the victory, dropping a 2-1 game to #4- ranked Rio Grande University.

After losing 1-0 to open the season and playing to a 1-1 tie Friday, the Rams fell behind early and could not bounce back. Rio Grande opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the contest when Jason Massie shot high over goalie Jason Williams for the opening tally.

23:30 later, the Top-5 club went ahead 2-0 when Massie fed teammate Milan Partenijevic for a breakaway goal. The Rams answered right away when Onesimus Ikongo fed David Suchodulski for a goal 22 seconds later, but that would be all the scoring on the night.

Mobile moves to 0-2-1 on the season and will return home to play Texas College at Mobile Friday, September 7th at 7:00 pm.

Lady Rams Lose Half-Time Lead and Game

ROCHESTER, NY—The University of Mobile women’s soccer team led Houghton College 1-0 after 1 half of play, but a barrage of 2nd half goals from the Highlanders doomed the Lady Rams.

Serving as Mobile’s main offensive threat, Terri McCreadie scored for the 2nd straight day, when she took the ball unassisted and knocked it home at the 42:00 mark of the first half.

But, Mobile’s lead was short-lived as Hanna Swift tallied 2 goals for the Lady Highlanders in the first 25 minutes of the second period to take the lead. Houghton tacked on two goals in the final 10 minutes of play to finish the scoring.

Mobile moves to 1-3 on the season and will hit the road again to play Covenant College in Georgia, Thursday, September 6th at 2:00 pm.
