MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball program announced the signing of Enterprise High School pitcher Kamaron Strickland for the 2009 season.

Strickland racked up 30 career wins, an ERA of 1.16 and 362 strikeouts in 339 innings pitched for the Wildcats. She also showed some ability at the plate, hitting .316 and driving in 64 runs in her high school career.

University of Mobile Head Coach Terri McCormick thinks those numbers will translate well to the collegiate level.

“She came down for a visit and tryout and all the girls really liked her and she like the campus,” McCormick said. “Watching her warm up I knew she was going to be good. She has great fundamentals, mechanics and a presence on the mound you can’t teach. She’s a leader. Naturally
I’m excited about what she can do as a freshman, but she is only going to get better and will be outstanding in a couple of years.”

Strickland, who helped lead the Wildcats to the state tournament last season while pitching to the tune of a 0.99 ERA, is excited about her choice.

“It’s really a small college sort of like a junior college but with better players,” Strickland said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to play from players from everywhere around the world and the accounting
program (her major) is a plus.”
