Mobile Softball Picks Up Two More Wins
MONTGOMERY, Ala—The University of Mobile softball team picked up two more wins by going 2-0 at the Faulkner University Tournament Saturday. The Lady Rams out-hit #7 Shorter College 11-4 in the opener and then finished the day by blanking #21 Thomas University 4-0.
Ginger Reeser (2-0) went the distance in the opener, scattering 5 hits and fanning 3, while holding Shorter to 2 earned runs.
Lady Rams’ third baseman Anadys Suarez turned a 5-3 double play to get out of trouble in the top of the first, and then the Mobile offense went to work, picking up 11 runs. Suarez and Yaicey Sojo combined to go 7-7 to pace the Mobile attack. Suarez hit a homer in the 3rd inning and went 4-4, while Sojo scored 3 runs and swiped a bag to go with her 3-3 afternoon.
Cristina Rodriguez and Abby Campbell added homers for the Lady Rams.
In game 2, Nikki Madden took the mound for the Lady Rams and shut out Thomas University, by going the distance and striking out 7 batters and walking none.
Jessica McIntyre picked up a pair of doubles in three plate appearances, and Sojo swatted another homer for the Lady Rams. Taylor Lee Phillips went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Mobile moves to 4-0 on the season, all against Top-25 competition. Next up for the Lady Rams is a exhibition game at home, Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 3:00 pm.
