MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team picked up a pair of tune-up victories by defeating visiting Pensacola Junior College by scores of 12-3 and 9-3 Tuesday at the UM softball field.
In game 1, freshman Karla Rodriguez went the distance for the Lady Rams, striking out 6 and holding the visitors to only 3 hits.
A majority of the run support came from the trio of Yaicey Sojo, Kelyn Mendoza and Cristina Rodriguez. Sojo continued her hot-hitting, swatting a 2-run homer and picking up 2 steals, Mendoza finished 2-2 with a homer, and Rodriguez ripped a 2-run double and reached base each time she came to the plate.
In the finale, things looked bleak for Mobile, until the offense came to life late. PJC led 3-2 heading into the 6th inning, but the Mobile bats woke up and responded.
After a PJC error tied the game and kept the inning alive, the Lady Rams put up a 7-spot to take control of the game. Sojo started the rally with a grand slam, Jessica McIntyre added a RBI triple, and Rodriguez added another RBI double.
Nikki Madden picked up the win in relief for Mobile, who remains 4-0 on the season. The Lady Rams hit the road Wednesday for a big road trip to California.
The Lady Rams play Point Loma and Biola on March 1st at 9 and 11 am. |
