| ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -
In perhaps the most lopsided result, in their storied
rivalry, 2nd-ranked University of Mobile (14-4) handed the
14th-ranked Badgers of Spring Hill College a mercy-ruled
five inning 12-0 loss. When it counted most, in championship
bracket play, the Rams rebounded from their first loss of
the Gulf Coast Invitational to have one of their most
offensively productive games of the season.
Stifling the Badgers at the plate
was the tremendous pitching of super sophomore Kirby Baxter
who struck out seven and surrendered only one hit in five
innings of work.
The Rams' entire batting order
jumped on board for the blowout which officially got
underway in the top of the third inning as they poured in
seven runs. Christie Jackson, Denisse Fuenmayor and Irene
Elliott each had two RBIs and combined to go 8-for-12 at the
plate.
The Rams, who lost their first game
of the invitational 6-4 to Faulkner University earlier in
the day, will have their chance to avenge that loss as they
face their regional foe Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Badgers, who were previously
undefeated in the invitational including a 4-2 upset over
3rd-ranked Oklahoma City University, will look to rebound
from tonight's drubbing as they take on 5th-ranked Thomas
University at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
