Rams Softball Sweep up at SCAD Tournament
Savannah, Ga. --
The fourth ranked University of Mobile (10-0) continued their domination
this weekend at the Savannah College of Art & Design Spring Break Slam
Fest Tournament.
Friday, Game 1
Mobile first played Spring Hill College in a non-conference game. The
Rams won easily 6-2. The winning pitcher was Ann Marie Odum. UM hit three
home runs against the Badgers. Evelyn Pare went 2-3, Maribel Riera hit
1-4, 2 run home run, Corey Race went 1-3, 2 run home run, and Taylor
Lee Phillips hit a solo home run. Pitcher Lindon Jones came in in relief
and recorded three strike outs.
Friday, Game 2
Later Friday night, UM played #6 Houton Baptist Univeristy. Linden Jones
continued her stike out streak recording 17 in a complete game no hitter.
Mobile defeated HBU 1-0 off a solo home run by Maribel Riera.
Saturday, Game 1
Mobile faced Faulkner University in the first game Saturday. UM controlled
the game from start to its 5th inning finish. UM defeated Faulkner, 11-1.
Winning Pitcher was Ann Marie Odum who threw all five innings and had
only 1 earned run. Maribel Riera, Mayret Perez, and Angelica Yrigoyen
all hit home runs.
Saturday, Game 2
Later Saturday evening, UM played #12 SCAD in what turned out to be
another blow out, 11-1 in 6 innings. Linden Jones continued her streak
of 10+ strike outs per game. She threw all 6 innings and had 1 earned
run. Again, Riera and Perez hit homeruns.
Sunday, Game 1
UM started the final day off with a win over Walsh University, 11-3
in 5 innings. Winning pitcher was Ann Marie Odum who pitched a complete
game. The Rams hit five homers against Walsh. Kristen Hayes, Jennifer
Gomez, Yrigoyen, and Perez (2) all homered.
Sunday, Game 2
In the final game, Mobile faced off against Purdue North-Central and
finshed the tournament as the only undefeated softball team, winning
11-0 in 5 innings. Winning pitcher was Linden Jones who threw 10 strike
outs and 1 hit in a complete game. The Rams were led by Hayes and Yrigoyen
who both homered. Several runs were scored by UM off errors by Purdue.
The Rams are now 10-0 heading into the Lead-Off Classic in LaGrange,
Georgia, which starts Friday, March 10.
