Lady Rams Sweep LSU-Alexandria

MOBILE, Ala-- The 13th-ranked University of Mobile softball team finished off the sweep of visiting LSU-Alexandria by picking up an 8-0 win in 5 innings.

Karla Rodriguez (3-1) dazzled on the mound, twirling a 2-hitter and fanning 3, while the Lady Ram offense scored 8 runs on 8 hits to back the freshman. Mobile scored in each of the 5 innings, using a 3-run 3rd to take control of the game and a 2-run 5th to win the game due to the 8-run rule.

In that momentous 3rd inning, Rodriguez struck out the side in the top of the frame, and then the Mobile offense went to work, sending 7 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning. Kelyn Mendoza and Jennifer Gomez went back-to-back with a RBI-double and a 2-run single, respectively to do the damage.

To ice the game, Mendoza and Gomez started the 5th with singles, and two batters later Yaicey Sojo sent everyone home by ripping a 2-run double into the left-center gap for the 8-0 win.

Sojo went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, Mendoza went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, and Gomez went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI.

Mobile (10-2) next plays this weekend at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, AL (March 14-16). Friday, Mobile will battle Ohio Dominican at 12:00 and Southern Nazarene at 2:00. The tournament features 10 teams from the Preseason NAIA Top-25 Softball Poll.

Lady Rams Cruise in Opener

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile softball team 8-run-ruled LSU-Alexandria in game 1 of Tuesday’s double header, picking up a 9-1 victory in 5 innings of action.

The Lady Rams pounded out 10 hits, including a pair of homers and a 2-run triple, while Nikki Madden 2-hit the visitors to move to 3-0 on the season.

After a scoreless 1st, Mobile tallied all of their runs over the next 3 frames to take control of the game. Cristina Rodriguez started the offensive explosion with a leadoff homer in the 2nd, and then Jineth Pimentel ended the 3-inning rally with a 3-run bomb in the 4th.

Mobile plated the 2 runs in the 3rd on a 2-out, 2-run triple from Kelyn Mendoza.

Taylor Lee Phillips finished 2-for-3, Rodriguez finished 1-for-2 with a homer and 3 runs scored, Suarez went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Pimentel finished 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and the 3-run homer.
