Rams take two from
undefeated Union University with doubleheader sweep
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile (21-5) kept
their perfect 14-0 home record streak alive with a doubleheader sweep of
ninth-ranked Union University (15-2) Tuesday night ending the Lady
Bulldogs 15-0 start to the season.
In the first game, Winter Guthrie was a perfect
2-for-2 including an RBI triple in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1
and eventually the game-winning home run with one out in the fourth
inning.
Kirby Baxter (11-2, 1.53 ERA) picked up the win going
seven innings allowing just two hits and one run while striking out 12.
After allowing a solo home run with two outs in the
first inning, Baxter retired the next 18 batters before allowing a two-out
single in the top of the seventh.
In the nightcap, Linden Jones (5-1, 1.29 ERA) picked
up her third consecutive win going the distance allowing just four hits
and one base on balls, striking out four in seven innings of work.
With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the
fifth inning, Molly Walker led off the inning by reaching base on an
error. After a walk and an infield single loaded the bases with nobody
out, Stephanie Landrum drew a walk forcing in the game-winning run.
Denisse Fuenmayor increased the lead to 2-0 with a deep sacrifice fly to
left field.
The Rams return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, March
16, in a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican University at 2:00 p.m./4:00
p.m.
