Venezuela Sweeps Mobile
In game 1, the Lady Rams actually jumped out on top, when leadoff singles from Yaicey Sojo and Taylor Lee Phillips turned into a 2-0 lead thanks to a sac bunt from Jineth Pimentel and a 2-out, 2-run single from Jennifer Gomez. Ginger Reeser made that score hold up early, with 4 k's through the first 3 innings of action, until Venezuela tied the game in the 4th. Mayles Rodriguez and Grisel Leon produced RBI doubles to knot the game. The Olympic-bound Venezuelans then put the game away with 2 runs apiece in the 6th and 7th frames. Leon struck again in the 6th with a 2-out, 2-run single and Mileinis Graterol capped the scoring with a 2-run bomb in the 7th. Mariangee Bogado picked up the win, going the distance, fanning 7 and scattering 5 hits. She allowed no hits after the 4th. In the finale, the Venezuelans took a 5-0 lead before Mobile rallied to force extras. The Venezuelans took a 5-0 lead after the first 5.5 innings thanks to homers from Maribel Riera and Yuruby Alicart. The Lady Rams then forced extras by rallying for 4 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th. Jennifer Gomez belted a 2-out, 2-run homer to center in the 6th and then Jineth Pimentel plated Abby Campbell with a ground out in the 7th. But, the rally was short-lived as Venezuela plated 5 in the 8th to pull out the victory. With 2 outs and a runner at 3rd, the National Team saw the next 6 hitters reach base with 2-run hits from Alicart and Gratero doing the damage. Marianella Castellanos picked up the win, going 8 innings and striking out 5. Mobile is 15-3 on the season and hosts 4th-ranked Trevecca Nazarene Thursday for a 5:00 double header. |

MOBILE, Ala-- The 13th-ranked University of Mobile softball team dropped two in an exhibition double header to the Venezuelan National Team by scores of 6-2 and 10-5 (8).
