Mendoza and Madden Honored
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile's Nikki Madden and Kelyn Mendoza were honored Wednesday evening for their work on the diamond last week.
Madden was tabbed the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and Region XIII Pitcher of the Week, while Mendoza was named the GCAC Player of the Week for the week ending March 16.
Madden made 4 appearances on a week which saw the Lady Rams go 7-1 against top-level competition, making going the distance in 3 starts and making 1 appearance out of the pen. In a 9-1 victory over LSU-Alexandria, Madden went 5 innings, allowed only 2 hits, no earned runs and fanned 5.
Against Southern Nazarene, the senior went the distance in a 4-hit effort, while fanning 6. She then saved her best for last, with her last start of the week coming in a 2-1 victory over then #1 Oklahoma City. Against the Stars, Madden scattered 5 hits, allowed 0 earned runs and struck out 3. 
Mendoza, the Lady Rams' right fielder, started 6 of the 8 games and compiled a .500 batting average, while slugging 1.000. Mendoza also led Mobile with 2 homers and 10 RBI on the week.
Those prodigious numbers include a 3-hit effort with a homer and 5 RBI in a 10-0 victory over #8 Savannah College of Art and Design. She also smacked a 2-run homer in a 9-2 victory over USAO.
The 6th-ranked Lady Rams host 4th-ranked Trevecca Nazarene Thursday, March 20th for a double header. Mobile is 15-3, while Trevecca sports a 13-0 record.
