Three UM Players Receive Player of the Week Honors

MOBILE, Ala. - Helping lead the UM Softball team to a 25-5 overall record and a blemish free 18-0 record at home were Region 13 softball Players of the Week sophomore pitcher Kirby Baxter and senior shortstop Denisse Fuenmayor. Rams baseball pitcher Leland Howard notched two wins to garner Region 13 honors as well.

Batting just above her season average of .445, Fuenmayor went 8-of-17 from the plate for a .471 average the week ending March 21. She scored three runs while driving in eight. Slugging 1.059, Fuenmayor also had three homeruns on the week.

Baxter picked up three wins last week, helping lead the Rams to double-header sweeps of 7th-ranked Union University, Ohio Dominican University, and 20th-ranked Spring Hill College. Giving up only three earned runs on the week, Baxter hurled 19 innings, striking out 18, to finish with a 1.11 ERA.

Howard turned in two complete game wins and struck out 14 while surrendering only three earned runs as the UM baseball team improved to 11-18 on the season.
